NSO aims to add value to its productions by linking workshops, talks and master-classes to them. Sometimes these are for schools and children, sometimes for adults. For the four seasons 2010 - 2013 this work with schools and children was supported by the D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust.
Linked with the production of Mignon in 2015 Suzuki music students and youth orchestra members enjoyed a workshop which included their having the opportunity to play music from the opera. Many of those who take part in workshops are able to go on to take part in the productions themselves. Other children and students also receive subsidised tickets for the performances. On this page are photographs of the workshops and the children’s chorus and also some feedback from those taking part and from their parents.
Comments from parents:
“Charlotte loved every minute of it. Performance blew us away.
We had never been to an opera. It was fantastic.
She loved it. She only wishes she could do more.
He had a fantastic time. An amazing experience to have the opportunity to perform with professional singers and a live orchestra in the theatre.
I had never been to an opera and I was a little apprehensive about following the story but I need not have worried.
We feel that these workshops are a very important part of what we do. We have achieved a lot on a very limited budget. With more funds we could achieve even more: if you would like to support what we do, please contact us or make a donation online!
